The 2025 Canada Games will be held in St. John’s Newfoundland and Labrador Aug 8-25. The teams will be playing 7 a side rugby, with a 12-person roster. The athletes must be born in 2007-2008 (U18 age).
The coaches of this team are Shannon Atkins, Mary Jane Webster, and Mia Fradsham.
Over the past almost 12 months, we have been having open ID sessions and practice sessions that have led up to tournaments.
We will have 2-3 open ID sessions in early September and choose a team to participate in the WXV1 tournament in Vancouver in October. This is a rare opportunity for these athletes to see the best players in the world as it is a precursor to the Women’s World Cup in England next year. If you see it, you can be it! We will be participating in a mini-tournament to increase our skills and knowledge. There will be two practices per week throughout the fall. All athletes will be expected to prioritize rugby if they wish to participate.
Over the Holidays in December 2024, we will have ID sessions by invitation only. At that point, we will have identified approximately 21 players that will make up the Canada Games training team leading up to the 2025 Canada Games. We will start strength and conditioning sessions, sports psychology sessions, and nutrition sessions to correspond with regular practices.
Easter Weekend April 18-21) will be dedicated to attending Tropical 7s in Tampa, Florida. This tour will provide excellent competition to build our skills and peak for August. The budget for this is approximately $2000 per player.
In late Spring we will also have a tournament in NFLD as a practice for the upcoming Games.
